Work in Progress
In August 2009, HowardCenter held the first annual “Zoe’s Race,” a 1K and 5K race to raise money for Vermont families in need of making their homes accessible for their children. The race raised over $20,000 to renovate homes for families in Burlington, Winooski, and Williston whose children are served by HowardCenter Developmental Services. Two of the projects created accessible bathrooms and the third built a new ramp for access in and out of the home.
In 2010, the Race raised another $20,000 which is being used to renovate three additional homes in Winooski, Williston and Hinesburg.

Special thanks to local architect Christian Brown for his work pulling together the contractors and projects for each site. Thank you to the following contractors Steve Van Dusen of Van Dusen Building and Restoration, Ron O’Brien of Aging in Place VT, Lanny Watts (plumber), and Ned Gaston from Haven Design and Building
We would also like to thank Rice Lumber and Close To Home that contributed labor and materials to these projects.
Zoe’s Race 2012 is scheduled for Sunday, August 26, at Oakledge Park in Burlington. This year’s goal is to raise $30,000 to provide Vermont families with grants for more remodeling projects around accessibility.
Thank you to our sponsors and contributors who make these projects possible.

All proceeds from Zoe’s Race will be used for current and future projects which will benefit families who receive support from HowardCenter and who are in need of accessibility modifications to their homes.
